Welcome to our EYFS page!

We are delighted that you will be joining us here at E-ACT Blackley Academy this September. We can’t wait to meet all of our new reception children who are going to grow up in our academy throughout the years and see how they develop into excellent learners.

We have created this page to give you some key information about our EYFS including what the children’s day to day activities will look like and what they will be learning about. We hope you enjoy looking through these resources and if you have any question, please contact us.

Through a play-based curriculum, access to a wide-range of activities and more focused group time sessions; our EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) sets standards for the learning, development and care of children from ages 3 to 5 years old.

Our EYFS houses a 60-place, purpose built, full-time Nursery and a 60 place, open plan Reception area.

Our Nursery

Our open-plan unit is teacher led, supported by teaching assistants who are qualified to level 3. The Nursery is carefully laid out to give the children access to the resources they need to play, linking both their own learning needs and interests.

Each day, the children have access to the indoor and outdoor areas in Nursery. We separate the children into smaller groups where they will listen to stories, learn to sing songs and take part in Phonics and Mathematics activities.

Our Reception

Reception is the first year of primary school and the final year of EYFS before children start Key Stage 1. It’s compulsory in England for children to attend.

Our reception class is purposely designed to enhance the development and learning of our pupils. It is laid out with educational play areas, key learning spaces and an open floor space for whole classroom interactions.

As an extension to the classroom, we have a specially-built outdoor area called The Quad, which allows us to use outdoor space for learning and activities with our reception pupils. We believe that learning goes beyond the classroom and we take full advantage of our outdoor environment.

In reception, our teachers have a statutory duty to carefully facilitate the fundamental skills and attitudes required to help children become lifelong learners, focusing on what children need to learn and how they learn it.

By the end of their reception year, children should be able to achieve an expected level within several different areas, including;

  • Communication and language
  • Physical development
  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Literacy
  • Maths
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive art and design

All children are different and learn at their own pace. If you’re worried about your child’s level of development, contact us to find out if they need extra support such as Maths or English tuition.
