Little Wandle and Sounds and Syllables
Our chosen phonics programme ‘Little Wandle’ systematically teaches children to blend and segment words for reading and spelling giving children the best start in both reading and writing. This starts in Nursery and continues through Key Stage 1.
Once children have mastered phonemes and graphemes, we use ‘Sounds and Syllables’ sensible approach to teach spellings in Key Stage 2. Children break words into syllables then use phonics to sound out the word. Each week children tackle spelling lists of words with similar patterns to build their spelling banks.
