Our Nursery

Here at E-ACT Blackley Academy, we have a 60-place, full-time, nursery class.

Our purpose built, open-plan unit is teacher led, including teaching assistants who are qualified to level 3.

We offer a play-based curriculum with opportunities for the children to access a wide-range of activities and experiences, alongside more focused group time sessions, such as maths and phonics. These sessions progress over the year to prepare the children for learning in Reception.

In our nursery class, we follow a curriculum which builds on children’s experiences and draws upon seasonal changes. For example, we begin the year by exploring the children’s individual appearances and identities, and later learn about the different festivals celebrated by the children in the class. We do this through a range of approaches, such as circle times, adult-led activities, and largely through high quality, continuous provision which the children access independently.

Throughout the year, resources are introduced to support the children in the seven areas of learning. These are: Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication and Language, Physical Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Design.

Each day, the children have access to the indoor and outdoor areas in nursery. During group times; pink, purple, orange and blue groups listen to stories, learn to sing songs, and take part in phonics and mathematics activities.

Every child has equal opportunity to listen to adults and each other as information and ideas are shared. Each area in Nursery is carefully laid out to allow children to access the resources they need to play, linking both their own learning needs and interests to the current Nursery theme.

Who is eligible?

We understand if the current circumstances may have made you reconsider sending your child to Nursery in September, so if they turned 3 before the 31st of August 2020, we have introduced a January intake so they can still enjoy and benefit from our Nursery provision before they start Reception in September.

We also want to support our local community and help parents get back to work. Therefore, if your child turned 3 between 1st September-31st December 2020, we could now offer them a nursery place too*

*These children must complete 18 months in Nursery before starting Reception in September 2022.

If you are interested in a nursery place for you child, you are welcome to contact us for more information.
